Naughty Boys Need Love Too FEATURED
VILLAINS: I have decided to highlight those brave villains who dare to fight archenemies with...blue skin. As I was updating some the Hall of Fame I noticed at least three cartoons that feature blue good guys. It's kind of weird that the occurrance should be that common, when you think about it. And I'm not even including the original Batman, who wore blue in his adventures. So here you have it, the Blue-Blocking Baddies. |

Gargamel (and Azrael), the Smurfs series The Smurfs were undeniably blue, in fact that was their big selling point in just about every episode. I'm not sure why Gargamel had such an obsession about catching and eating them. Food, as a general rule, doesn't tend to come in that color. Let's think about what you could possibly ingest that is that color: Vallium is blue. Viagra is blue. Blueberries...actually they're kind of purpley. Margaritas are blue. There are blue M&Ms, I guess... My point is, with the exception of the questionable blueberries, nothing that comes in blue is entirely healthy for people to eat! Chemicals, alchohol, processed sugar, and food dye. Maybe if gargamel had thought longer on the subject he would have realized that Smurfs were probably poison!!! |

Chairface Chippendale, The Tick series The Tick...was he blue? I mean he never took off that jumpsuit so it was like a skin, a second skin, and nothing penetrated it as if it were nigh-invulnerable like himself. So I'm considering him one of the blue good guys. Chairface is kind of an oddball. Like the Deadly Bulb ("Heros" episode) Chairface's method seemed to be that of maintaining-dignity-with-a-surreal-birth-defect-and-still-manage-to-take-over-the-world. Admirably, he managed to pull it off rather well. Most of the time no one even seemed to notice his head, and he really gave the Tick some troubles in the episodes in which they co-starred. He only acknowledged his problem in the episode when he wanted to switch bodies with the Tick so he could rid himself of his....undesireable attibute. He almost pulled it off, too. Not bad for a man with furniture for a head. Kudos, Chairface! |

Caveguy, Freakazoid series Interesting twist, here. Freakazoid's blue, Caveguy's blue. I'm telling you there's no color more prolific for cartoon characters than blue!! I would be hard pressed to do a page for yellow characters. Caveguy has the same kind of pinache as Chairface but the two villains have much different problems with their respective nemeses. The Tick is an idiot, which makes dignity a difficult thing for Chairface. Freakazoid is an idiot with a witty bite, which is so terribly disarming for such a dignified neanderthal. Blue against blue, like fighting fire with fire. Intriguing conflict. |

Megabyte, Reboot series Yeah, I know Enzo and Dot have green skin but who's the real hero of this cartoon? It's BOB! Bob has blue skin! Coincidence? I think not. Frankly, Megabyte wouldn't even have to do anything evil to be a villain, he's just got that vibe. As Doctor Hibbert from the Simpsons put it, "He has the Evil Gene. Hitler had it, Walt Disney had it." And Megabyte has it. To tell you the truth, Bob bears such a strong resemblance to Joey Lawrence that at times I wished Megabyte really would delete him from Mainframe. Ah, if only to dream... |
